In 2015, severe hail storms affected thousands of businesses and homes throughout Brisbane. One of them being the iconic, heritage listed, Freedman & Co building in the heart of Fortitude Valley. This property was subject to extensive water inundation through all of the apartments and levels of the building.
This project presented some challenges; one of them being working with the numerous stakeholders and body corporates. The building was made up of 14 residential units so ARC Projects worked alongside a large number of stakeholders, insurers, strata managers, building managers, owners and tenants to ensure all parties were well managed. ARC Projects ensured all work was completed with minimal disruption to all 14 tenants throughout the whole project.
The Freedman & Co building is heritage listed so all materials, from wall linings to timber kitchens, were sourced to ensure the heritage feel was maintained throughout each unit. Throughout the design and construction phases of the project, restoring the building to its original state was the highest priority.
The building is set on Ann St, one of the busiest streets in Fortitude Valley so accessibility was a challenge when delivering large materials and getting to and from the site. The units were fitted with VELUX skylights so utmost care was taken with these large, fragile materials. The team at ARC Projects also replaced the HVAC system which was severely damaged in the storm.
Through these challenges, the ARC Projects team delivered the project on time and within the budget. All of the many parties were very happy with the outcome.
